Baby expected to survive after mom gives birth in Chillicothe Burger King bathroom

A baby born in a toilet at a Chillicothe Burger King last week is expected to be OK, according to police.

According to the report, police responded to the restaurant on Centennial Blvd. on a report that a woman overdosed and given birth in the bathroom.

When officers arrived, they found a man passed out in a vehicle. Police found 26-year-old Zachary Frey passed out behind the wheel of the running vehicle.

Officers were able to wake up Frey, who they described as drooling, having slurred speech, pinpoint pupils, and kept "nodding off."

An officer and a medic went into the bathroom and found 26-year-old Elizabeth Sanders sitting on a toilet with a suspected ball of heroin on the floor beside her. Sanders reportedly told them she believed she had miscarried.

The medic saw the newborn infant lying face up in the toilet. The baby was removed from the toilet and found to be still be breathing.

According to the Chillicothe Gazette, Chillicothe Police Capt. Larry Bamfield said the baby was still being treated at Adena Medical Center and was expected to be OK.

After receiving medical treatment, Sanders was arrested on a warrant related to an alleged theft in March. She pleaded not guilty on Monday and was released.

Frey was charged with operating a vehicle while impaired and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The Gazette said additional charges could be filed pending lab results of suspected heroin found in his pocket.
