1 dead, 1 injured in Newark stabbing

NEWARK, Ohio - One man is dead and another is in very serious condition after a reported stabbing in Newark.

Newark police said officers were dispatched to a business in the 200 block of Deo Drive Monday around 4:15 p.m.

Employees reported to men had entered the business with stab wounds seeking help. Investigators determined the incident happened outside the former Kroger store.

Police said they found knives at the scene and are not looking for any suspects.

Police identified the deceased as 38-year-old Rodney Peyton.

The injured victim, a 28-year-old Michael Culp, was taken to Licking Memorial Hospital before he was taken to Grant Medical Center in Columbus. He is in serious but stable condition.

Newark Detectives are continuing their investigation into the events and motive that lead up to the fatal stabbing.
